Manhattan South is created and written by Thomas M. Cassidy, a former senior investigator for the New York State Attorney General's Office. Manhattan South is an action-packed police series that provides a behind-the- scenes glance at how homicides were solved in the gritty landscape of 1980s New York. Tom Cassidy witnessed firsthand that many investigations take unexpected twists and turns that could never have been anticipated when the first wave of detectives arrived at a crime scene.
Cassidy never strays far from the reality of the incredible, but never-before-told stories, whispered into his ears by detectives, FBI agents and especially his late father, Hugh “Joe” Cassidy, respectfully referred to by the cops of his generation as, “The Commander.” Tom Cassidy owes a special debt of gratitude to his father who spent many months sharing his expertise as an experienced Detective Commander.
“The Commander.”

Manhattan South travels back to a time when detectives solved crimes without the help of modern technology and had to rely solely on their instincts, relationships, and wit. Cassidy peppers all 30 episodes of Manhattan South with the culture, sounds and dialogue of the gritty landscape of 1980s New York City. Some episodes stand alone, others are interconnected, such as when Manhattan South’s demoralized detective commander risks it all to find the killer of his best friend by reaching out on the sly to the “five families” for help.
Manhattan South introduces a diverse cast of complex and likable characters including: the Detective Commander at Manhattan South Homicide, a rising star in the department. The oldest detective in the department whose old bones still have a lot of life left in them. The first female African American Chief of Detectives, and a ground-breaking female FBI Agent. But the core ingredients of Manhattan South’s secret sauce are the stories that “old time” cops only shared with each other.
The catalyst for Manhattan South.
